I had the privilege of speaking with former "Spirit Squad" member Nichoas "Nicky" Nemeth. In the interview Nicky speaks of his time in WWE, and what he is ultimately doing now. The transcript is below:
Shawn: How was your time in World Wrestling Entertainment?
Nicky: My time in the WWE was awesome, it was basically living a dream. Ever since i was a kid, i wanted to wrestle and finally wrestle for the biggest promotion in WWE, it was a great time that i wont never forget.
Shawn: Do you still keep in contact with anyone in WWE?
Nicky: Yes, in fact i do. I keep in contact with a few wrestlers. I speak to Chavo on certain occasions, people from smackdown and i speak to shawn michaels sometimes as well.
Shawn: Did you enjoy playing as a member of the Spirit Squad?
Nicky: Yes,lol actually i did. It was something i never thought i would actually do in this business. i started out as a singles wrestler then i got the call that they needed a few people and then me and my buddy was interested. Then from there, the creative for the WWE took over. and about playing the member, it was good. i reallly enjoyed it and i wish we could do it again someday down the road, maybe on a different brand other than Raw.
Shawn: Well speaking of your singles career, where did you start training to be a professional wrestler?
Nicky: I trained down with Shawn Michaels and his wrestling camp. It was something great to be training with a legend. Then WWE called me up to their developmental territory, OVW and i started to train there, and I still do.
Shawn: Do you work with the crew at Florida Championship Wrestling?
Nicky: Yeah in fact, Im going to be parting ways with OVW as they are no longer part of the WWE. I will be heading down there to meet with officials on possibly getting a contract with FCW. Ive been down to FCW down before and it was a great time so I hope it will be even a greater time this time.
Shawn: What is your ultimate future goal in this business?
Nicky: well my goal again is to get called up to the main roster. then once i get up there, then hopefully singles gold, if not tag team gold. we done it before and hopefully we can do it again. It's just a matter of time, im taking it day by day, so as long as WWE, and FCW do their part, i will do mine.
Shawn: With you working in the OVW what is your travel schedule like? I'd assume it isn't nearly as rough now like it is in WWE
Nicky: well i only head down to OVW to work out, learn from them and everything, i currently have a peace agreement where i can attend both OVW and FCW. My travel is rough, not as much as WWE, but usually each week, im doing shows, working out, and i try to spend time with the fam.
Shawn: Is your family supportive of you pursuing your career in professional wrestling further?
Nicky: Yes, they are 100% in support. they come to the shows with me and they come backstage with me and hang out. So yeah they are supportive.
Shawn: Well that is very important.
Nicky: Yeah it is.
Shawn: True True, are there any wrestlers past or present who you tried to model yourself after?
Nicky: Well Al Snow is one, he is a great character, Shawn Michaels is another, and last, Lance Storm, i wish he could wrestle again cause I would really enjoy putting on a show against him. I enjoyed Batista, John Cena and The Undertaker though I didnt get to work with them much.
Shawn: During your time with World Wrestling Entertainment, who do you think had the most influence backstage?
Nicky: Well of course, the main event stars. They had all the attention on them. Cena, HHH, HBK, Undertaker all of them really. All of the main event stars so to say. Some were asses, some not. lol
Shawn: lol
Nicky: I think you would understand
Shawn: Oh definitely, especially in this business.
Nicky: Of course.
Shawn: With the recent news that World Wrestling Entertainment is now participating in a "Concussion Awareness" program do you think that it would be a wise move for all wrestling promotions to follow suit?
Nicky: Yes, i believe it is something that is needed. Wrestling these days is very dangerous and with this program, it will limit the number of injuries and the locker room will be in better suit as well. So i believe all the companies should, and if they dont, thats their mistake.
Shawn: Speaking of injuries, how many injuries if any did you sustain since you started wrestling?
Nicky: Ive had a few. I had a hernia lol. I broke my arm a while back while attempting a clotheslines. My arm basically just broke in half. I broke my leg as well. Not fun to say the least.
Shawn: Ouch definitely not.
Nicky: Thats why they make us wear gear to protect our selves. Knee Caps, Elbow Cabs and everything else. Guards and stuff, it can be dangerous if you dont have those things on, and it is required by the wwe as well. Well exception of a few wrestlers. but most need and are required too.
Shawn: Definitely a good policy to do so.
Nicky: It was implemented in the early 2000s. so Yes. It's great, Keeps us safe, and thats all that matters.
Shawn: I 100% agree, as we get to the end of the interview, which moment in professional wrestling history do you remember the most?
Nicky: Actually a couple. I dont know if you heard about this, but John Cena went for a clothesline and actually someone from behind low blowed him and it really hurt him. he had no cup so to say on so that was funny, but im sure it hurt. same happened for Randy as well. But the moment that sticked out would be Undertakers legacy, just like Ric Flairs.
Shawn: Did you enjoy Flair's send off on Raw?
Nicky: Yes, I was backstage actually. It was something that was great and needed to happen. Though, they did not let me on stage, it was awesome.
Shawn: It was definitely one of the best moments in Raw history.
Nicky: Yes, it was something that wont be forgotten, for sure.
Shawn: Well I appreciate your time for this interview. Would you like to give a plug for your web site?
Nicky: Yes, give a shoutout to my fan base site, http://www.nicknemeth.com/ they have been with me for a while and it would be awesome to return the thanks.
