To start out the night Teddy Long came out to announce that all three Smackdown titles were going to be defended, but he doesn't say who the challengers will be. This left one's mind to wonder. Though all but the World Heavyweight title defense was pretty predictable.
Then Michael Cole introduces Mick Foley as the new color commentator on Smackdown.
The first match of the night was the WWE Tag Team Championship match. John Morrison and The Miz defended against Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore. Moore and Yang were owning the champs early on, but the champs end up taking this one and successfully defending their titles.
Armando Estrada then comes out and announces that Colin Delaney will have a match and if he wins he will get a contract with ECW. Colin comes out and then out comes Estradas hand-picked opponent for Delaney. It is none other than the One Man Russian Wrecking Crew Vladimir Kozlov. Obviously Kozlov won this one, because then what would be the point of having Estrada face Delaney on the upcoming episode of ECW? I think Kozlov needs to come up with a more devastating finisher. His inverted DDT just doesn't fit his character.
The next match is Mark Henry vs. Nunzio. What is with all the squash matches tonight? But then Nunzio signalled for someone to come out with him, and, to fuel another big man vs. big man feud, out comes the Big Show. Mark Henry decimates Nunzio and then tries to attack him some more after the match, but in comes Big Show for the save and Mark Henry runs away like a little girl.
Next came the U.S. Heavyweight title match. Matt Hardy's opponent is...you guessed it, MVP. This was a great match. There was a lot of back and forth action. MVP had some near pinfalls, but ultimately Matt Hardy hits him with the Twist of Fate and gets the win.
Jesse and Festus then have a match agains Hawkins and Ryder. It is nice to see Hawkins and Ryder wearing something other than the copies of Edge's gear. I love watching Festus freak. He is hilarious. He was dominate throughout most of the match, but then he gets chopped in the throat which he still sells as being injured from Taker's submission. And Hawkins and Ryder end up winning after a missed crossbody.
Next Finlay takes on Julio Dinero. Finlay completely dominates this one and Hornswoggle even hits Dinero with a Tadpole splash after the match for the heck of it.
The main event is the World Heavyweight Championship match. It is Taker vs. The Great Khali. Taker comes out and then Vickie Guerrero comes out with Edge and says there isn't going to be a title match tonight. This starts the loudest boo I have ever heard. She then says that Taker's submission is illegal and slaps it with a ban. She then writes her own death ticket by stripping Taker of the title, and tells him to bring it to her. When Taker doesn't comply she says she will send someone for it then. Khali's music hits and he waddles his way to the ring. I know Khali needs surgery on his knees, but that guy really needs to work on flexibility. He is so stiff all the time. Taker lays the belt down. Khali starts to bend over to grab it, but stops for a second to rethink his actions. Then he reaches for it again and gets drilled in the head with a big boot. Taker then puts on his submission and Khali is tapping like that will help. Then Hawkins and Ryder come out of the crowd and steal the belt and run it to Vickie. Taker gets up and stares Vickie and Edge down. And the sheer terror in Edge's face makes me laugh. He knows this is the end of his life.
Match of the Night goes to Matt Hardy vs. MVP
