The recent trend in every aspect of WWE programming for the past week is power, and the abuse of it. So I can’t ignore this main theme even if it doesn’t have to do with the wrestling in particular it still affects the matches and the characters in some way. Lets start by talking a little about Smackdown, which is not a show I talk about often because I do prefer RAW.
First of all, Mick Foley is ten times better then Coachmen could ever be as a color commentator. THANK YOU! Anyway, the abuse of power occurring on Smackdown is the fact that Vicki Guerrero stripped the Undertaker of the World Heavyweight championship. I loved the way she did it to, because when you think of someone as a heel, you would think that they would be a jerk about it. But Vicki sounded like she was truly scared of Taker. And she very well should be, I would not want to anger the Deadman. Vicki and Edge can do whatever they want, but an angry Undertaker will ultimately get the better of them.
RAW is an entirely different situation. I can find humor in Vicki Guerrero abusing her power. I find none in King Regal’s, it just makes me angry. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I threw something at the TV on Monday night. I was swearing up a storm when Regal brought Adamle out to take JR’s place for the Burchill match (I will get into that more a little later), but threw my shoes at the TV when he cut off the lights during the Punk/Orton match. Triple H is not a guy that you really want to make mad, but unlike the Undertaker, he has a stronger willed opponent in King Regal. It seems as if the battle lines are drawn, you are either on Regal’s side or you are not. But there is one feud that I really haven’t quite figured out yet, and that is Michaels and Jericho. Jericho is firmly on the side that Michaels is faking his injury, making him the heel, while Shawn is standing by the fact that he is injured, and making him the face. I don’t want Shawn to turn heel, because I am pretty sure it won’t go over well, but where else can this feud go? I mean, really, every week Shawn is limping and every week Jericho calls him a liar, there needs to be more substance in the feud then that. I also hate seeing Shawn limp, it’s a girly thing, sorry!
Last and yeah it’s the least, ECW. Is it sad that the biggest storyline on the show involves the announcers? But it’s the truth, I only watch the show for CM Punk, and if Kane and him become a tag team, I am going to scream because the oddball tag team movement drives me nuts. After reading an article on WWE.com, about Adamle’s stint on RAW I ;though t they were going to make him a heel. Which is interesting, because the play-by-play guy is not usually the heel. But I didn’t get that on Tuesday, although his commentary was better then it has been. The fact of the matter is that he may think he is better then JR, but that is not the truth, and if Regal would pull a bonehead move like putting Adamle on RAW more often, I truly believe the fans would riot, plain and simple. He is defiantly a talented announcer but he lacks the passion for the business that makes every single other announcer in the WWE better then him.
So while the general managers run rampant, and the announcers feud, I can’t wait to see what happens next week. Until then so long from beyond the ropes.
