First off, I did not order Backlash, which I do regret because it seemed, as it was a pretty good pay per view. Yeah as much as the broke college student was proud that she didn’t give into her impulses, I was kicking myself after Matt Hardy, Shawn Michaels and Triple H all won in the same night. The aftermath of Backlash has caused many crazy break offs of the storylines.
Lets start with RAW. I am not going to lie, I channel flipped during the first hour of RAW. But I firmly blame that on FOX who decided to move House to Monday nights at 9. Anyway, I am psyched to have just a straight up Triple H and Orton feud. JBL feuding with Cena should be interesting since they did that a couple of years ago, and it will be interesting to see them change the dynamic of it. Mr. Kennedy interrupting Regal was interesting. It’s obvious in the events that transpired later that Regal is defiantly the heel here. I think this means Kennedy will do a face turn, which will be interesting because he has never in his career been a face. They really have to plan this right so he doesn’t come off bad as a face, something like the way TNA turned Christian Cage face, he was still a loudmouth but on the good guys side. Probably the most interesting, and complex feud on TV right now is Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and Batista. The highlight reel segment, had me a little confused, because Shawn didn’t defend himself, and he favored the right on Sunday and the left on Monday. Out of the three guys, Shawn is the one I don’t want to turn heel. So I think the mistake in the limp was accidental. Just because it would work better to have Jericho and Batista turn on Michaels, and the fans would give them heat for it. We will see. As for King Regal going postal at the end of the broadcast, all I have to say is hell hath no fury like an Englishman scorned. RAW is going to get a heck of a lot crazier with power crazy Regal at the helm.
On to the crazed mediocrity that was ECW. It is pretty bad to say that the most entertaining things that happened on the show had to do with announcers. First of all, I am so excited that Mick Foley is the color commentator on Smackdown. It’s not that Coach was horrible, but he was not a color guy and it was lacking. The whole deal with Mike Adamle and Tazz walking off is interesting because I don’t think it was planned. WWE.com’s report of the incident made it sound as if the both stormed off. But when you watch the video you clearly saw that Mike left first and Tazz followed him after asking, “Where are you going?” Tazz had been making comments about how the fans feel about Adamle’s commentary, which are very subtle during the broadcast but there. So I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t think that Adamle is a bad announcer, but he isn’t a good wrestling announcer. You have to have just enough passion to be in the booth as the wrestlers do in the ring and Mike doesn’t have that, period.
As the craziness reigns supreme, I can’t wait to see what happens next week. Until then so long from beyond the ropes.
